Refrigeration technology is the science of moving heat energy from a lower to higher temperature level. It’s also known as thermodynamics. Increasingly, familiar and sometimes less familiar techniques are being applied that utilise the high-temperature heat for various purposes, mainly space and water heating.

Heat is not a substance that can be seen or touched. When we refer to heat, what we’re talking about are the particles of energy called “thermal radiation” which are emitted from an object as it becomes warmer and then absorbed by another object when it cools down.

We feel this movement of thermal energy in our everyday lives because objects such as air become colder at night. If you’ve ever put your hand outside on a cold day, you’ll notice how much cooler it feels than your other one inside (even though they might both have the same temperature).
